Griff and his wife had seen a cocktail cabinet that I had recently sold and wanted to commission their own Art Deco masterpiece. I sourced this beautiful, waterfall-style cocktail cabinet made by F H Marshall and Co in Scotland as part of their Talent range, with striking walnut veneer. It looked a little worse for wear when it was delivered, but I knew there was a beauty waiting to be revealed under that old, crackled varnish!
I provided a number of Art Deco wallpaper ideas on a moodboard, but they ultimately left the decision with me. I chose this gorgeous wallpaper from Bobbi Beck called Cameron in the green and pink colourway. I felt the tone of the wallpaper complimented the cabinet perfectly, and the curves of the deco shapes mirrored the curves in the cabinet.
I replaced the handles with more modern brass knobs and a brass pull for the drop-down cabinet, added motion sensor LED lighting to the top and bottom cabinet and replaced the old caster wheels with more modern black and brass ones.
As part of my commission service, I kept in constant communication with Griff and sent him pictures of the progress so he could see the cabinet come to life and finished off the service by personally delivered the cabinet on completion.
